BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The new Toro® Outcross™ 9060 multi-purpose vehicle received the 2018 Innovation Medal from the Federal Association of Garden, Landscape and Sports Facilities (BGL) on September 12 during the 23rd annual GaLaBau trade fair in Nuremberg, Germany. The Toro Outcross 9060 was among 16 products to receive the award, which recognizes manufacturers that have developed new and advanced solutions for the construction and maintenance of landscaped areas. More than 100 companies submitted products and services for consideration.
Products are required to meet specific criteria to be considered for the GaLaBau Innovation Medal. For example, the product must be completely new and not comparable to any previously known product, or a new version of a product already proven in practice. Products are also evaluated on how they simplify or improve organizational processes, working conditions, quality of work and performance, as well as ecological considerations. In addition, the product must comply with liability regulations in the country of origin and have environmentally sound production and disposal practices.
Each year’s winners are selected by the GaLaBau Evaluation Committee, which consists of representatives of the BGL, colleges, professional associations, landscape architects, and companies involved in garden, landscape and sports field construction.
“We are honored to have the Toro Outcross 9060 selected for this award from such a large number of other worthy innovations,” says Rasto Nichta, director of The Toro Company’s Equipment Business in Europe. “It’s the perfect way to highlight the many ways this product can enhance customers’ productivity.”
The GaLaBau Evaluation Committee selected the Toro Outcross 9060 based on its ease of use, its turf-friendly footprint and its intelligent assistance system. The machine can be preprogrammed with key settings for different attachments to reduce the possibility of operator error. This makes it possible for complex tasks to be carried out consistently, without compromising the quality of turf care.
“The Toro Outcross 9060 was designed to do the work of several machines in one,” explains Micha Moerder, sales manager, The Toro Company in Germany. “It combines the benefits of a tractor, a utility vehicle and much more. The universal mounting plate is compatible with many standard turf maintenance attachments, including loader buckets, forks, pull-behind rotary mowers, fertilizer spreaders and aerators, so the Outcross can be used to perform tasks all year long.”
Another key feature of the Toro Outcross 9060 is its uniquely controlled four-wheel steering/four-wheel drive system. This system allows each wheel to turn and spin independently at a rate determined by the machine’s ground speed and turning angle for superior traction, while minimizing damage to turf. The balanced design eliminates the need for front counterweights, making it significantly more delicate on fine turf than an agricultural tractor.
The international GaLaBau Trade Fair focuses on planning, construction and maintenance of urban and green spaces, sports fields, golf courses and playgrounds. The 2018 event featured 1,253 exhibitors from 37 countries and attracted approximately 70,000 visitors.
